The major six stadiums for the Euro 2012 football championship that are being built or improved in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Odesa, Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk are presently in different stages of construction. The construction of the stadiums is being financed by the Euro 2012 committee.
The Donbass Arena in Donetsk can hold 50,000 people, and construction is planned to be finished in May 2009.
Kyiv’s Olympic Stadium can seat 73,000 people. The stadium is currently being reconstructed and remodeled, and the target date for completion is 4th quarter of 2010.
The stadiums in Odesa, Lviv and Kharkiv are planned to be finished in July 2010. Each of them will seat up to 34,000 people and will be equipped with all cutting-edge equipment for broadcasting football matches.
Recently the construction of the first stadium for Euro 2012 was finished. It is the Arena Dnepr stadium in Dnipropetrovsk. The stadium was opened on Monday, September 8, 2008. It is located in the center of the city and can hold 31,000 people. The stadium was constructed by a German company with assistance of several other international companies.
