According to Alexandr Afanasyev, the deputy chairman of the Dnepropetrovsk City Council, 24 new hotels will be built in the city by 2012 and 12 existing hotels will be refurbished. This improvement in the city’s hotel availability is planned to meet the demand for the EURO 2012 Football Championship.
All the new building projects are in the final stages of coordination and registration with the city authorities. Afanasyev also pointed out that all the new hotels will be funded by private investments. The preliminary cost of the project is 3.378 billion Ukrainian hryvnias (or US$ 675.6 million). Construction of two 5-star hotels has already started in the downtown of Dnepropetrovsk.
Besides the hotels, the city government also plans to reconstruct five student hostels, which will allow lodging for thousands of football fans and tourists. The planned cost of the reconstruction is 36 million hryvnias.
