Banks in Ukraine

Prominvest Bank in Search of New Ownership

By Katya Shtamburg, Nova Mova staff writer, from Internet sources.

Prominvestbank, the sixth-largest bank in Ukraine, was placed in receivership earlier this month after a run on deposits. Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, whose government has drawn up a package of measures to limit the effects of the current financial crisis, last week supported the idea of nationalizing the bank. The presidential office also supported the idea.

But in an official statement Prominvestbank, referring to comments by the bank's receiver, deputy central bank Chief Volodymyr Krotyuk, said efforts were being pursued to find a buyer for the bank. Investment company Dragon Capital last week said that four or five groups had expressed interest in Prominvestbank.
